Reconstructing Geometrically Consistent Tree Structures from Noisy Images

چکیده
We present a novel approach to fully automated reconstruction of tree structures in noisy 2D images. Unlike in earlier approaches, we explicitly handle crossovers and bifurcation points, and impose geometric constraints while optimizing a global cost function. We use manually annotated retinal scans to evaluate our method and demonstrate that it brings about a very substantial improvement.

A Homologically Persistent Skeleton is a fast and robust descriptor for a sparse cloud of interest points and saliency features in noisy 2D images
2D images often contain irregular salient features and interest points with non-integer coordinates. Our skeletonization problem for such a noisy sparse cloud is to summarize the topology of a given 2D cloud across all scales in the form of a graph, which can be used for combining local features into a more powerful object-wide descriptor. We extend a classical Minimum Spanning Tree of a cloud ...
متن کاملSimilarity-based versus Template Matching-based Methodologies for Image Alignment of Polyhedral-like Objects under Noisy Conditions
The image alignment problem has as input a set of different images from a single object or several identical objects. One instance of the object in each image is misaligned relatively to the other in a given image, that is, the objects lie in different positions and orientations. Thus, the problem consists in finding the homogeneous planar transforms for each of those instances. The process is ...
متن کاملDendritic tree extraction from noisy maximum intensity projection images in C. elegans
BACKGROUND Maximum Intensity Projections (MIP) of neuronal dendritic trees obtained from confocal microscopy are frequently used to study the relationship between tree morphology and mechanosensory function in the model organism C. elegans. Extracting dendritic trees from noisy images remains however a strenuous process that has traditionally relied on manual approaches. Here, we focus on autom...

متن کاملReconstructing the temperature degree of the warm seasons through Quercus persica tree rings in Zagros forests Dena region
Trees can record long-term effects of climate variables. Using dendroclimatology knowledge, we can reconstruct such variables especially for areas which have short-term climatic data. For this purpose, we reconstructed the temperature degree of the warm months (May-September) through annual rings width of Quercus persica and regression analysis of data obtained from stations on Dena region. Wit...
